I started with a kind of artistic approach... I visualized the best-looking shapes and sizes. I worked with the variables until it got to the point where, if I changed one of them, it didn't get any better... [only then I] figure out the mathematical formula to produce that effect.

I begin with an idea and then it becomes something else.

Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it's done right.

Eventually I decided to give my thoughts a form, to put them into practice, and so to determine whether my understanding was right or wrong.

The idea comes to me from outside of me - and is like a gift. I then take the idea and make it my own - that is where the skill lies.

Start with end in mind and work towards it.

I thought I should make something – I felt it would be so easy – it would take form under my hands like magic.

You always start with a fantasy. Part of the fantasy technique is to visualize something as perfect. Then with the experiments you work back from the fantasy to reality, hacking away at the components.

I love horror and I felt like I had a really good idea about how to make something scary, but also I’m very measured, especially with a story like this, about what is appropriate and what is not appropriate.

The methodology for what I was going to do: ask some questions, get some replies, organize result, choose the best things to do.

I remember thinking: “that’s what I want to do.”

I wanted to secure a certain quality and technique because it’s a lot of science and a lot of the art to put together an image.

Everything comes from drawing out my ideas.

"This idea comes to you, you can see it, but to accomplish it you need what I call a "setup." For example, you may need a working shop or a working painting studio. You may beed a working music studio. Or a computer room where you can write something. It's crucial to have a setup, so that, at any given moment, when you get an idea, you have the place and the tools to make it happen. If you don't have a setup, there are many times when you get the inspiration, the idea, but you have no tools, no place to put it together. And the idea just sits there and festers. Overtime, it will go away. You didn't filfill it — and that's just a heartache."
