I would like to see more women play an active role in all film related fields. From lighting, finance, cinematography, editing to directing, we need more women taking space.

I don’t have a dream role. Every role I get is my dream role. Whatever the role… I have to commit to every time.

I see producers as the people who fit all the pieces together. I always felt that if I relied on other people to get me work, then I’d be out of work rather quickly, because, like you said, people only see you in these archetypal roles. By producing, I get to hold the reins a bit tighter while providing opportunities for other marginalized storytellers.

I want to be a force to reckon with not just as an actor but also as a producer. I want to do quality stuff and be an employer of labour so that I can change perceptions people have about the industry.

I am not only an actress, I am also a producer. I have produced several movies in the past and I just finished work on two movies. I like to make good films and that is why I don’t come out with movies every now and then. I am a professional and I know what a good movie should look like. I have set a standard for myself and I don’t want to disappoint my fans.

There are lots of dream roles but the most important for me at the moment is getting an action role call in a Hollywood movie.

We want to see women in more power positions, not just in front of the screen but behind the screen as well.

My journey has been a continuous learning process, marked by a commitment to storytelling that resonates with the audience. Each project is a step in that evolution, a quest to connect with people on a deeper, more meaningful level. A producer is more than just an investor; they are the architects of a film. Responsible for the entire creative and business process, from idea conception to assembling the right team, managing budgets, and overseeing production. While not visible on screen, a producer's influence is integral to every aspect of the filmmaking journey.

How do I pick a role? Well, primarily I think I would like to be part of a film that's progressive as well as entertaining, you know? Because in India we have a huge amount of audience that is not educated, and they really look up to films... So I think it's important to do a film... that's entertaining but has a message. And after that I'd like to do films that are different for me -- if I'm doing a love story then I want to do a war film, if I'm doing a war film then I want to do a story about an un-wed mother. I think variety is the spice of life.

Dreaming about being an actress, is more exciting then being one.

Like most female actresses, I am always aspiring to succeed and become a popular star, and my positive energy never dies out. And it wasn’t until entering my twenties that I began to identify my real dream as an actress. I realized that acting is not all about receiving people’s applause or cheer. It is about delivering the right character to the audience and feeling satisfied in who you become on stage. Therefore, I try to focus more on the abstract qualities of acting, and I hope to become a better actress throughout time.

I’ve been producing behind the scenes for a little while now, so that has always been part of my brain and process. If I can add value and be integral in a project or an experience, I definitely love producing. But now that I’ve directed, I look forward to new opportunities to get to do it again. We’ll see what comes next. I definitely look forward to doing it again, for sure.

I would like to encourage my fellow Rwandan female filmmakers to pursue their dreams and ambitions.

As a director, you have the job of dreaming up the movie, and then you have to get everyone else in the movie – hundreds of people – to have that same dream, too.
