I have decided to step down and show a sign of political responsibility

I said, 'Dad, if I don't do it, who will? At some point, somebody has to step up to pave the way for everyone to move forward,'

For the good of God's Church and for my own peace of mind, I believe it is time of a younger man to take over the reins of office here in Newark. I have done my best and I am very happy now to step aside.

If the ruling and opposition parties discuss and come up with a plan to reduce the confusion in state affairs and ensure a safe transfer of governments, I will step down from the presidential position under that schedule and by processes stated in law.

Having consulted widely among colleagues, I have concluded that the unity of the Party and the prospects of victory in a General Election would be better served if I stood down to enable Cabinet colleagues to enter the ballot for the leadership. I should like to thank all those in Cabinet and outside who have given me such dedicated support.

All I know is that I serve at the pleasure of the president. If tomorrow he doesn’t want me, I will go.

I will prepare and some day my chance will come.

If not me then who? That is the important question we all have to ask ourselves everytime any opportunity knocks. Why is that we think maybe we are inadequate and who do we think would be in a better position to take that.

However, given my public pronouncements regarding a possible candidacy for higher office in 2016, I believe that it behooves me to step down at this juncture to ensure that deliberations on the General Appropriations Bill (GAB) - considered the single most important piece of legislation passed by Congress each year - are untainted by suspicions or perceptions of partisan politics.
