Walter Kirn is an American novelist and journalist born August 3, 1962. His novels include Up in the Air (2001), which was adapted into the 2009 George Clooney film of the same name, Thumbsucker (1999), Mission to America (2005), She Needed Me, and My Hard Bargain. His non-fiction includes Blood Will Out (2014), an account of his friendship with imposter and murderer Clark Rockefeller, and the children's book There's a Bear in the House. He is Editor-at-Large of County Highway and writes the Substack newsletter at walterkirn.substack.com. He has been a frequent contributor to publications including The New York Times Book Review, The Atlantic, GQ, Time, and Vanity Fair, and co-hosts the podcast America This Week with Matt Taibbi.
