The Leader of the Conservative Party between 2005 and 2016, Cameron identifies as a One-Nation Conservative, and has been associated with both economically liberal and socially liberal policies. After the referendum on membership of the European Union resulted in a 'leave' vote, Cameron announced that he would leave office after a new party leader was elected. On 13 November 2023, he was appointed Foreign Secretary by prime minister Rishi Sunak and became a life peer in the House of Lords.
