It’s been one of the greatest acting challenges of my life,

It was a little bit of a challenge because Nalo’s character is so different from the person I am in real life. I had to do things I wouldn’t do but then, that’s what acting is all about.

After reading the script, I had a strange feeling that I had Umrao in me. And the film created history.… I gave a performance which is one of my personal favourites.

When I got the role of Babekazi on Uzalo, I enjoyed it so much because it allowed me to portray someone who we all have in our families, who speaks their mind whether people want to hear it or not

…Back then, it was very difficult for Latinos to even play their own roles, even if it was written for a Latin character. This was an event where they were actually changing the role to make it Latin, and I was just very proud to be able to change it. To not only have this be my first acting role, but have it be a little bit groundbreaking…

In the early days of my carer as an actor, I shared what was then the prevailing attitude of Negro performers — that the content and form of a play or a film scenario was of little importance to us. What mattered was was the opportunity, which came so seldom to our folks … Later I came to understand that the Negro artist could not view the matter simply in terms of his individual interests, and that he had a responsibility to his people who rightfully resented the traditional stereotyped portrayals of Negros on stage and screen.
