Professor of astrophysics; civil rights activist and dissident (1936–2012)
Fang Lizhi (12 February 1936 – 6 April 2012) was a Chinese astrophysicist whose liberal ideas inspired the pro-democracy student movement of 1986–87 and the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. He eventually had to move to the USA.
