Afghan cleric who founded the Taliban (1960–2013)
Mullah Mohammed Omar (Pashto: ملا محمد عمر, Mullā Muḥammad 'Umar; or Mullah Omar 1960 – 23 April 2013) was an Afghan mujahideen commander who led the Taliban, and founded the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in 1996. He was overthrown at the beginning of the NATO War in Afghanistan.
