Indian poet and activist (1934-2020)

(22 January 1934– 23 December 2020) was a poet and activist renowned for her contributions to the literary, cultural, social and environmental fields in Kerala, India. She used poetry as a tool for her activism to protest against social issues and environmental atrocities. She realised the power of poetry to bring people together for the common good. Her remarkable feats were the Silent Valley movement to protest the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the Silent Valley area of Kerala, India and the establishment of Abhaya in Thiruvananthapuram to provide shelter for female mental patients. She devoted her life to female empowerment, tribal protection and environmental conservation.
