Sunder Katwala is a British writer and thinker, born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire of parents who were from from India and Ireland. He is the director of British Future, a UK-based think tank, and was general secretary of the Fabian Society from 2003 to 2011. He is a former leader writer for The Observer newspaper and has written for The Guardian, The New Statesman and blogged for The Spectator.

The 2024 election is a landmark for representation, with record diversity in our parliament, closer than ever to that of the electorate. In the space of 40 years we have gone from zero to nearly one in seven MPs being from an ethnic minority background.
