It was really a good way to audition, because it’s more of what I think the experience of auditioning should be, which is more exploratory, not a presentation. You’re in the room with the director, so you may as well work, and he may as well direct you. That’s what we did.

[About auditions:] I would like to say it gets easier. Truthfully, it doesn't. But I developed a strange kind of addiction to the process. Before each audition, I would stand outside the room and my nervous brain would try to enumerate all the reasons why I really didn't have to be there. Why I should just walk away. But afterwards, the relief of having done it was like nothing else. No matter how good or bad the audition was, the ecstatic adrenaline rush gave me a unique buzz. I might be back at square one in the acting world, but I was getting a kick out of it.

I would like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we’ve passed the audition.

Theatre is a terrific environment to hone your storytelling skills as well as fine tune your performance, both of which I'm very grateful for and that I use in my prep process for this medium [of television], also, when you have a live audience, they are the last member of the cast, if you will. You can rehearse a show as much as you want,a how that night will turn out until your final company member is in the house, and that's the audience.

I'll tell you what the most important and enjoyable thing for me is: getting notes. A director that enhances my performance by seeing things onscreen and then telling me, "Why don't we do that? Why don't we do this?" Directors who understand a little bit more of the psyche of what he's looking for and can put that in words. I work great with notes. I really am able to elevate with getting notes from other people and hearing other people's opinion and I think that's for me the best thing about working with a great director.

I’ve always wanted actors to simply and purely feel the emotions rather than feeling like they have to express them. During the film shoot, I tried to have as much conversation with them as I could about the characters and their circumstances. Having conversation was a more effective way of communication than simply giving directions, and I believe it allowed much more freedom for the actors.

The idea of working in cinema was the reason I applied. When I did apply, I was interested in being an actress, but by the second year I knew I wanted to be a director and I think my acting classes helped me become a better director. I learnt how to write and direct through learning how to act.

The auditions were great. Many people impressed us with their performances. I was given a role in Family Affairs but the period they wanted me to be around is long. It was a one year contract and they plan to be shooting every week.
