Everybody will have to pay a price - EU and UK - because there is no added value to Brexit. Brexit is a negative negotiation. It is a lose-lose game for everybody.

It will make it more complicated and costly than today for all of us. This is the essence of Brexit.

It's surprising that there would appear to be those in this House who know more about making cars than those who make cars, more about building planes than those who build planes, more about engineering than the engineers and that the simple truth is the overwhelming and unmistakable voice of the world of work, industry and all the employers organisations and the trade unions is that a No Deal Brexit would have catastrophic consequences with tens of thousands of workers losing their jobs, making our country a poorer country in every sense of the word for years to come.

Brexit will make us poorer and risks breaking up our United Kingdom. We must stop it and we will.

It's clear, that if Britain leaves Europe it will be young people who suffer the most, left in limbo while we struggle to find and then negotiate an alternative model. In doing so we risk that lost generation becoming a reality.

This government's shambolic handling of Brexit is compounding years of damaging austerity.

Every day as the chaos unfolds, we see how hard leaving the European Union will be. Every form of Brexit will make us poorer, it will put jobs at risk and it will weaken us on the global stage. What was supposed to be the 'easiest trade deal in human history' has proved to be anything but. Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP have learnt nothing from watching Theresa May negotiate our way out of Europe. Breaking a union of 40 years is destroying our country, I dread to think what dismantling a union of more than 300 years would do.

We've already seen in the Windrush scandal how the Conservatives' hostile environment checks can destroy the lives of people who have every right to be in the UK. The government's chaotic approach to Brexit risks a repeat of that scandal for EU citizens.

The question is why Brexit has spectacularly failed. Of course, the conventional Remainer wisdom is that it was doomed from the start. But this neglects the elephant in the room: as it turns out, Britain is terrified of freedom.
