This is part of what a family is about, not just love, but letting others know there’s someone who is watching out for them. It’s what I missed so much when my mother died — what I call your ‘spiritual security’ — knowing that your family will be there watching out for you. Nothing else will give you that. Not money. Not fame.

The fact is, there is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family. If you don’t have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don’t have much at all. Love is so supremely important. As our great poet Auden said, ‘Love each other or perish’.

Family is the most important thing in the world.

Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.

I think it’s important in every culture that we treat family respectfully. We’re being thankful and we’re showing love. I think if you ask me what family means, I would say it is unconditional love. So at this point in time, I think it’s still another universal language.

“Family” is the people who always want what’s best for you.

Sticking with your family is what makes it a family.

What is family life? In family life, love should prevail and be present at all times.

To me, family is the glue that holds my being together. My family defines me, from my ancestors, my wonderful protective mother, to my loving husband and wonderful children.

I’m incredibly close to my family and I think family is such an important thing, in Asian culture especially. This really spoke to me personally, but hopefully the audience will resonate with that as well. Not only Asian audiences, but also audiences from all over the world, everyone and anything can relate to the unconditional love that you share among a family and between family members. No family is perfect. We all have our differences, misunderstandings, and ups and downs. I hope people can see that we are who we are because of our family and because of our ancestry, and respect that.

We remember that family is not just those of blood. But also those we choose to love.
