It’s very hard to describe what you feel and what you see. When you try to couple it together and make a presentation, you attempt to catch something – and it’s kind of ironic -, you try to make something meaningful, but there can be flows. However, even when you are making an effort is important to have an open approach.

I simply try to put down colours which render my sensation.

I make [figures] in which I try to give an impression of the whole.

My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest way.

But we cannot enjoy in isolation; we wish to dazzle others with that which we daily snatch from the world of sense, and in return we wish others to show us their trophies. From a reciprocity of concessions arise those mixed images, which we hasten to confront with artistic creations in order to compute what they contain of the objective; that is of the purely conventional

These pages are not my confession; they’re my definition. And I feel, as I begin to write it, that I can write it with some semblance of truth.

I thought that to write of my own experiences would require a translation out of the crude patois of actual slow suffering — mean, scattered thoughts and transfusion-slow boredom — into the tidy couplets of brisk, beautiful sentiment, a way of at once elevating and lending momentum to what I felt.

When I write I am attempting to do justice to something I have glimpsed about the world.

Yes. I think so that at the back of my mind that there was this kind of response and you can't close yourself to this kind of feedback as long as its constructive. So I think I've tried to show many kinds of shades of what I am in terms of the films that I've chosen, in terms of scripts that I've chosen.
