I hated every minute of it. But I said to myself, 'Suffer now, and live the rest of your life as a champion'.

It's hard to explain but I have a need to play intensely every day, to fight every match hard. And this desire never to stop fighting is something else I learnt in the place where I grew up.

I didn't even want to train, I was just playing, but I was persuaded to come back by the coach at the time. He said that you can't train like this. Everyone has a low point. Why can't you persist?

My trainer was a great guy … who made me want to die for an hour. My character was spending most of his life in a state of hunger, and I wanted to get a sense of that, physically and mentally.

I tried to do what was necessary but it wasn’t working. So I put my mind just trying to cope with the pace and just to finish...A lot of thought was going on in my mind but I said, ‘Hey, I can’t quit.’ I’ve been in this sport for a long (time). They say it’s important to win, but it’s great to participate and finish.

I knew I wasn't the favorite [at Trials] and I had to put in the work to make sure I came out successful. But I believe in one thing: 'Go hard or suffer the rest of your life'.

Hey. On my worst day, I'll train for two hours. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't have hobbies. I don't have too many hobbies. I'm always working, I'm always training.

You can't be a champion in a week or a year, You must accept a time of suffering.

I will not quit until I am a five-times world champion.

I learned during all my career to enjoy suffering.
