Today I would like to appeal to all men and women across the country to rise up and say E seng mo ngwaneng! We call on men and women from all four corners of Botswana to make a personal commitment to step out of the sidelines and be part of the solution to end sexual exploitation and abuse. We need to speak with one voice and advocate for the protection of children, no matter what it takes.

The engagement of men and boys for gender equality and women’s rights promotion is really fundamental and needed. We need men to challenge gender stereotypes, to share equitably in family and household responsibilities, to be positive role models in their communities and their families.

Empowering women must include men

Both men and women must step-up their efforts for equality, build on the foundation that has already been established, make the required investments, develop partnerships with the corporate sector and civil society, and hold individuals responsible for their actions.

We must stand up for equality, justice and human dignity because it is vital to each and every one of us all – woman, man and child

Today we are launching a campaign called “HeForShe.” I am reaching out to you because we need your help. We want to end gender inequality — and to do this we need everyone to be involved. This is the first campaign of its kind at the UN: we want to try and galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change. And we don’t just want to talk about it. We want to make sure it is tangible.

Good men and good women can stand together to fight injustice.

All well-meaning Ghanaians to support the cause, to stand firm and join in the struggle to increase women’s participation in decision making.

Something needs to be done to put an end to all forms of gender injustice.

It is time that "equality" stop being a vain phrase, and that the rights of both men and women be equal.

Beyond the rhetoric, I challenge men and women alike to support women and their causes, condemn in absolute terms all forms of gender based violence and crimes against women, and create around you, an environment that ensures that women can flourish and thrive.

It's about time now we get the recognition and we get the gender equality that we deserve.

I call upon governments, organizations, businesses, and individuals to recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and embrace the transformative power of gender equality. Let us support initiatives that amplify the voices of women and children, create platforms for their ideas to flourish, and elevate their leadership roles in climate action.

The women's movement has led the struggle, very bold, very courageous. But the change that is required­– respect for human rights of women– is not just the responsibility of women alone. So we need to mobilize and to involve men.
