O power of Love, O wondrous mystery!
How is my dark illumined by thy light,
That maketh morning of my gloomy night,
Setting my soul from Sorrow's bondage free
With swift-sent revelation! Yea, I see
Beyond the limitation of my sight
And senses, comprehending now, aright,
Today's proportion to eternity.
Through thee, my faith in God is made me sure,
My searching eyes have pierced the misty veil;
The pain and anguish which stern Sorrow brings
Through thee become more easy to endure.
Love-strong I mount, and heaven's high summit scale;
Through thee, my soul has spread her folded wings.

I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What, but Thy grace, can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, oh, abide with me!

Thou art my life, my love, my heart, the very eyes of me, And hast command of every part to live and die for thee

There give thy griefs full vent to flow O'er the unconscious dead, With no spectator to thy woe
But my attendant shade.

I live to shew his power, who once did bring
My joyes to weep, and now my griefs to sing

Whence has come thy lasting power.

Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.

Father of Peace, and God of love!
We own Thy power to save,
That power by which our Shepherd rose
Victorious o'er the grave.

Thou art! directing, guiding all, Thou art!
Direct my understanding then to Thee;
Control my spirit, guide my wandering heart:
Though but an atom midst immensity.

Tempt me no more, for I
Have known the lightning's hour,
The poet's inward pride,
The certainty of power.

A wizard am I, whom many dread,
With power like a God.
So come with me to yonder bed,
And see my mighty rod.

Guide Thou my hand within that hand of Thine —
Thy wounded hand! — until its tremblings take
Strength from Thy touch.

With Thee in shady solitudes I walk,
With Thee in busy, crowded cities talk,
In every creature own Thy forming power,
In each event Thy providence adore.

What is there in thee, Moon! That thou should'st move my heart so potently?
