If we’d like to be honest about gender in the music world, we need to address all parties. Women need to invest in themselves, hustle for gigs, network, and do the work of forming bands and cultivating their own talents if they would like to be taken seriously. The industry pretty much always rewards women who do these things. I’m not interested in any special handout just for being a woman. But on the other hand, if a woman is doing these things, yet she’s told ‘We already have enough women on the bill, so we’ll call you next year’—now that’s an issue. No one says to a male artist, ‘We already have enough men on the bill!’

Music is a male-dominated field. Women are not always taken as seriously as we should be, so sometimes we have to put our foot down.

The music industry as a whole just needs more women. There are a lot of men at the top of the ranks.

When a female artiste wants to do music, the first thing any man will think of as a businessman is being sexy. I’m sexy, I’m smart, I love God, but it is also important to find a person or people who understand that.

Most of the big companies are owned by men; let’s support each other as women so that we can also achieve such business success, This will not come easily, but it’s a journey we need to embark on now.

In an industry that is seemingly dominated by male folks, women have strived to break the glass ceiling which I would count myself among.

So often the story of rock’n’roll is told from a male perspective. So often it feels like men own music. And I still get as angry and frustrated about that as I ever did. Reading those women’s accounts of their lives has reminded me how much they paved the way back then. And history too often erases the women, in all art forms. Every single published story of a female artist goes a small way towards redressing the balance, and is another one saved from the fire.I didn’t try to be a soul singer, a jazz singer, a blues singer – no category…My music is my expression of what I feel and believe in a moment.

We as women need to band together as a sisterhood stemming our petty quarrels the world is for the taking and we are the takers.

Every win, every success, every contribution to ensuring that the platforms for women and women opportunities increase is breaking the stereotype! It is only male-dominated because not enough females have been given the opportunity, not because females are less qualified.
