Before leaving to run the Philippine online news website Rappler, she was a lead investigative reporter in Southeast Asia for CNN. Together with Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov, she was awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for "their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace."
