I needed to sing because nobody else was singing my songs.

What I have to say is all in the music. If I want to say anything, I write a song.

I used to wish that I could write songs, like the others—and I've tried, but I just can't. I can get the words all right, but whenever I think of a tune the others always say it sounds like such-a-thing, and when they point it out, I see what they mean.

For me, how I feel about what I wrote down turns into a song.

There was something I wanted to feel, and I felt it only when I was writing.

The essential thing is to WANT to sing. This then is a song. I am singing.

Each person who ever was or is or will be has a song. It isn't a song that anybody else wrote. It has its own melody, it has its own words. Very few people get to sing their song. Most of us fear that we cannot do it justice with our voices, or that our words are too foolish or too honest, or too odd. So people live their song instead.

I decided that in order to become a big famous rock star, I would need to write my very own songs instead of wasting my time learning other peoples music too much. It may act as an obstruction in developing your very own personal style.

Once I dreamed I'd write songs.

Throughout all of the changes that have happened in my life, one of the priorities I've had is to never change the way I write songs and the reasons I write songs. I write songs to help me understand life a little more. I write songs to get past things that cause me pain. And I write songs because sometimes life makes more sense to me when it's being sung in a chorus, and when I can write it in a verse.

I think because I felt so sad I had to bring out my feelings, and try to create music that would make me and all my friends feel better.

Singing is something I’ve always wanted to do but I just want to be my own person, not to copy anyone else. I’d just like to be really famous.
