Everybody on this island has one ambition, which may be summed up very simply. It is to do something, however small it may be, better than anyone else. Of course, it’s an ideal we don’t all achieve. But in this modern world the great thing is to have an ideal. Achieving it is considerably less important.

Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.

I think for anyone who gets into a position, not only does one want to fill the shoes of those who have done well in that post, one also wants to surpass their achievements.

The point is, is that the aim of our work must be not to just have a few do well, but to have everybody have a chance, everybody who is willing to work for it have the ability to dream big and then reach those dreams.

Everyone would like to be the greatest, but God cannot bestow that honor on everyone.

We must set out to do a good job irrespective of race. We must seek to do our life's work so well that nobody could do it better.

All masters want to appear more brilliant than other people.

You have to aspire to everything to have hopes of doing something.
