E' chiaro che papa Francesco vuole lasciarci vivere e sopravvivere. Ha perfino detto, a chi lo vuole sentire, che non farebbe mai del male alla Fraternità. Ha anche detto che noi siamo cattolici. Ha rifiutato di condannarci per scisma, dicendo: "non sono scismatici, sono cattolici", anche se dopo ha usato un termine un po’ enigmatico, cioè che noi siamo in cammino verso la piena comunione.

Siamo entrambi d’accordo sul fatto che ci sono già attualmente un certo numero di disposizioni pratiche che rendono lo scisma praticamente impossibile. Cioè nella pratica, negli atti di tutti i giorni, noi esprimiamo e mostriamo a Roma la nostra sottomissione, il fatto che riconosciamo queste autorità, e ciò non soltanto alla Messa, non soltanto nominando il Papa e il Vescovo locale nel canone della Messa, bensì anche in altre cose. C’è l’esempio del Papa stesso che ci ha dato il potere di confessare. Ci sono anche degli atti giuridici: è un po’ complicato da spiegare, ma può succedere che un sacerdote commetta dei delitti canonici, e in questi casi noi facciamo riferimento a Roma, che ci accorda la facoltà e a volte anzi ci richiede di emettere un giudizio su tali casi. Si tratta, quindi, veramente di relazioni normali. Non si tratta soltanto della giurisdizione per le confessioni, c’è tutto un insieme di cose.

So these are really normal relationships. It is not just a matter of jurisdiction over confessions, there is a whole range of things involved.
