Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful, and most noble employment of man.

Work is wholesome, and there is plenty for everyone. It keeps us from ennui and mischief, is good for health and spirits, and gives us a sense of power and independence better than money or fashion.

Work is a special part of those indispensable conditions that a truly human society must guarantee so that everyone can not only survive and live, but even more so, fulfil themselves according to God's plan.

And yet, as a path to happiness, work is not highly prized by men. They do not strive after it as they do after other possibilities of satisfaction. The great majority of people only work under the stress of necessity, and this natural human aversion to work raises most difficult social problems.

A human being must have occupation, if he or she is not to become a nuisance to the world.

The natural thing to do is to work — to recognize that prosperity and happiness can be obtained only through honest effort.
