I thank your Excellency for your generous and obliging offer. Most certain, my inclination leads me to a resignation. My reputation I value more than any advantages of gain; and I consider it in great danger. I wrote your Excellency lengthy upon this subject yesterday, and therefore shall say but little upon it to-day. I intend to write to Congress to day, upon the subject of my apprehensions and determination; and, if they do not give me those kinds of assurances, which are necessary to guard my reputation from malice and detraction. I shall insist upon leaving the business. The politics of Congress are really alarming, and the state of the finances astonishing; where they will end, time only can unfold.

Be able to resign. It will improve your value to the President and do wonders for your performance.

I would rather sacrifice political position tomorrow than do an unworthy act which would subject me to the censure of an honest man

Resignations should be sought from those who have morals. If he had any shame, he would have resigned after the 2002 pogrom in Gujarat. This is a shame.

I am going because the Army did not give me the political support to continue as commander and President of the nation. I am not one of those who abandon the ship in the middle of tempests or difficult hours such as those the nation is living in today. The people of the nation know this.

Why did I resign you ask?

I would rather go out of politics having the feeling that I had done what was right than stay in with the approval of all men, knowing in my heart that I have acted as I ought not to.

Having now finished the work assigned me, I retire from the great theatre of Action; and bidding an Affectionate farewell to this August body under whose orders I have so long acted, I here offer my Commission, and take my leave of all the employments of public life. I am leaving this cabinet because I consider my dignity, reputation and legacy, values that I have worked hard for and hold dearly. I am returning to my unblemished career which I have assiduously laboured for over the years with resounding success nationally and internationally.

If mainstream opinion makes me no longer able to continue the job as chief executive, I’ll resign.

But should any thing take place contrary to my wishes, which might furnish me with sufficient reason of quitting the service, yet I will not do it, until the danger and difficulties appear less than at present.

If I had resigned on my own accord, to whom would I have transferred the reigns of power?

I would wish to demand the resignation of the constituency chairman. He has no moral right to suspend me from the party. Some of us will not look on while others try to destroy what we have collectively built as a party. I am sad about the turn of events and I feel my work has been a vein .

PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON’T WANT TO BELONG TO
