If I don’t sound like a typical Washington politician, it’s because I’m NOT a politician. If I don’t always play by the rules of the Washington Establishment, it’s because I was elected to fight for YOU, harder than anyone ever has before.

I was proud to have been the anti-establishment candidate after more than twenty years in politics, a small town guy fighting for the ordinary Canadian.

The elections were a peculiar type of elections which I have not understood from that day to this. I was elected by a Punjabi group to represent Sialkot, a place I had never been to.

I represent the public, not public opinion.

I was elected to be independent. I was elected because I owed no political debts. I was elected to do the job, and not to spend my first four years in office campaigning. I've kept that promise -- and that's why we face the future with renewed optimism.

I didn't come to Washington to be a 'yes man' for any president, Democrat or Republican. I didn't come to Washington to get along and win any popularity contests.

I went to the East African Community on assignment. This is my constituency, there is no better time or candidate to represent this constituency than myself.

:I was the 2008 endorsed candidate against Joe Biden and I won in two counties. We didn't have the support of our liberal Republicans then.

It was amazing I won. I was running against peace and prosperity and incumbency.

I did not join this Party to have a yuppy-land approach, to run capitalism better than the Tories. I joined this party to change this society and create a socialist alternative.
