When I came to Canada I was thinking of doing something else different from Business. I was thinking to study Social Work, but my biggest challenge was my language barrier.

At times it’s challenging because I have to teach myself new skills.

Life is full of challenges and I encountered so many obstacles when I started acting

My biggest challenge was getting used to the new lifestyle. Avoiding food I loved was a bit tough at first but then I learned how to cook vegan versions of my favourite dishes. Aside from that, in my country, the concept is so new that we have little to no vegan products, which made my life very hard.

The constant moving and fighting, the seemingly endless carousel of new people I had to meet, learn to love, and then forget — this, and not my subpar public school, was the real barrier to opportunity.

There are numerous barriers, I mean the issue of funding was a challenge for me. The business was almost self-funded. The biggest challenge is always the issue of access to funding more than anything.

As soon as you start moving around the world, you face challenges. It’s difficult to find a school or a university that is wheelchair-friendly and has an elevator, so I had to pick the institution first, then my degree. Being yourself, out in the world, is the greatest accomplishment,”

Also note that my time at university was the most challenging in my entire academic life.

"All education is a struggle," said Marchbanks. "I had to struggle against schools and universities, of course, in order to get time to educate myself, which I did magnificently."

Well, it’s the normal challenges. Getting there, meeting your peers, and seeing that you are new, some people have gone far ahead of you. Trying to get yourself together, trying to make yourself known, telling them you are capable of being a good actor. There is nothing one does in life that doesn’t come with its own challenge, that’s typically the thing.

The greatest challenge I think is adjusting to not playing baseball. The reason for that is that I had to come out of baseball and come into the business world, not being a college graduate, not being educated to come into the business world the way I should have. And, instead of people doing things for me, I had to do things for myself. That was scary for me.

As you can hear, it’s difficult to learn another language after forty.

I think if I speak about the challenges or something that’s commonly faced with a lot of young people. And it’s when you get into space where there’s already a lot of experience with the people that you’re working with, at times you find yourself putting pressure on yourself just to work harder and to prove yourself. And I think that was the first challenge when I joined, not that anyone had put pressure on me, but I was putting pressure on myself to say, “I need to deliver”. “I’ve been entrusted in this role”. “I’ve been appointed by the Chairperson”. “I’ve been recognized by the African member states”. There’s a lot on the stake for me. Not only there to be most importantly the constituency that I represent, again, will hold me accountable. So, it comes with, you know, that pressure of ‘I need to do it and I need to do it now’ because there’s so many challenges. A lot of challenges were faced with an Africa at the moment from high unemployment to conflict rising, to climate change issues, to democratic governance and the human rights of young people. It’s so much. It’s a lot and, you know, you want to be able to deliver results.

The most difficult thing for me was the language. But the club used to check on me to see how I was doing.
