That our thought on the subject may be clear, let us first of all try to define exactly what we mean by the term “Master.” We mean by it always one who is a member of the Great White Brotherhood—a member at such a level that He is able to take pupils. Now the Great White Brotherhood is an organization unlike any other in the world, and for that reason it has often been misunderstood. It has sometimes been described as the Himalayan or the Tibetan Brotherhood, and the idea has been conveyed of a body of Indian ascetics residing together in a monastery in some inaccessible mountain fastness.

We call them “Masters” because they are our teachers; and because from them we have derived all the Theosophical truths, however inadequately some of us may have expressed, and others understood, them. They are men of great learning, whom we term Initiates, and still greater holiness of life. They are not ascetics in the ordinary sense, though they certainly remain apart from the turmoil and strife of your western world.

Mastering others is strength. Mastering oneself makes you fearless.

He is one of the noblest conquerors who carries on a successful warfare against his own appetites and passions, and has them under wise and full control.

A Master is quite a different cat. It is one that sees the day as an opportunity in time to create avenues of reality and emotions that are unborn of realities that are unborn that the day becomes a fertilization of infinite tomorrows.

A Man who is Master of Patience, is Master of everything else.

This man is the master of us all.
