Nollywood is today’s euphemism for the Nigerian film industry.

Nollywood is very well known and I think because of the acclaim it has beyond Nigeria; it has drawn a lot of attention, but there are a lot of other areas that are being ignored.

Nollywood is improving and evolving. The story lines and technical quality are getting better daily with more attention to details and strategic collaborations. There’s a bit more funding now. It’s definitely looking better as a business. However, there are many challenges in Nollywood, and a peculiar one is distribution. It’s a Herculean task to distribute movies the way it should be done and we need to create more structure and channels of distribution so as to maximise profit and create more visibility for our stories and experiences

The mainstream Nollywood world is the one that caters for the populace, not necessarily the cinema movies. And with the new distribution channel that is coming, the important thing is for the professionals to come into it and not say we can’t relate with this people. In order to make things right, you have to go back in there with a determination to make things right.

There is a difference between acting in Nollywood and Kannywood. In Kannywood, we always ensure that we do not do what will be against our religion or culture

Nollywood is actually lucrative if one is good at what one does, and one knows how to package oneself. I had this mentality until a junior colleague sent me her rates. The film industry is very lucrative. If one does not live above one’s income, it will be lucrative for one.

We need to shoot more movies that promote and celebrate our culture. Right now, it should be all about presenting our stories to the Western world. I think Nollywood needs to shoot more indigenous, historical movies to tell our stories like ‘Sango’ and all of that. We can change the Nigerian narrative through our films. I believe Nigerian filmmakers have a lot of power in their hands to change our society and even hold our politicians accountable.

Whether there is love in Nollywood or not is a function of the experiences one has had.

I think Nollywood as an industry is really growing, we’ve come a long way, right now we are dominating the cinemas and I think we are doing great. I think all that is missing to bridge the gap is the audience and finance.

I sincerely don’t think there is any industry in the world where sex for a job doesn’t come up. So, Nollywood isn’t an exception

Basically, I just hope that the Nigerian movie industry gets bigger and better, because we are still growing. I’ve heard a lot about sexual harassment in Nollywood, though I haven’t witnessed it. In Nollywood, I look up to Rita Dominic, I want to be like her. I also like Uche Jombo.

Nollywood needs to be structured. It is not just about improving the quality of movies or equipment rather it involves the right funding and how actors are paid. Nollywood is still in a zigzag which means anybody can do anything. The industry has to be structured in a way that one arm of the organisation will feed on the other arm. We have to make things work in Nollywood
