Increase the intensity of advocacy for gender equality in our society. Develop the confidence of mid-career and advanced women scientists to be mentors, as younger female scientists are more motivated when accomplished women scientists serve as mentors, speakers, and leaders in their field.

Women should be encouraged to fully participate in the development of STEM, and take key positions in science matters in government as it will ensure the implementation of strategies for improving the participation of women in the development of science.

The promise approach to achieve gender balance in sciences is to show young people the full range of scientific professions while they’re still at school. Fostering and supporting girls to consider scientific careers may help them to choose to study science disciplines.

The role of women in science continues to be increasingly important particularly in development and also in the advancement of the field. I believe that we as women have a distinct perspective in science. If you look at the role that we've played in the life sciences and also in the medical sciences we have been able to bring women's issues to bear look at the issue of water and sanitizing water women have taken a leadership in this particular room because in African communities in the Kenyan communities water is woman's responsibility and we've been able to push for the fact that we need portable and cleaner water.

Universities and governments need to enact deliberate policies that favour women and girls.

Having women in positions of responsibility in scientific institutions is useful to show the younger generation that a brilliant career in science is possible for women.

One of the things women bring to a research project, or indeed any project, is they come from a different place, they've got a different background. Science has been named, developed, interpreted by white males for decades and women view the conventional wisdom from a slightly different angle — and that sometimes means they can clearly point to flaws in the logic, gaps in the argument, they can give a different perspective of what science is.
