All too easily, we confuse the world as we symbolize it with the world as it is.

Now, that we do not really know of what sort each thing is, or is not, has often been shown.

The world is incomprehensible. We won’t ever understand it; we won’t ever unravel its secrets. Thus we must treat the world as it is: a sheer mystery.

Without a sense of what should be, we cannot be clear about how what is could ever change.

Not how the world is, but that it is, is the mystery.

The truth exists, but we can never know if it is what we are saying.

We see the world not as it is, but as we are, or as we are conditioned to see it.

It's difficult to explain. We're still very confused.

In the world we live in, what we know and what we don't know are like Siamese twins, inseparable, existing in a state of confusion.

We cannot say what reality is, only what it seems like to us.

It is almost impossible to state what one in fact believes, because it is almost impossible to hold a belief and to define it at the same time.

The world as it is is the world as God sees it, not as we see it. Our vision is distorted, not so much by the limits of finitude as by sin and ignorance. But the more we raise ourselves in the scale of being, the more will our ideas about God and the world correspond to reality.
