I think at the beginning, comedy was just an opportunity to earn money, especially after realising how good I was at it. But I didn’t think as far as making it an actual career out of it or realising my purpose through it. It only hit me when I did So You Think You Are Funny that there is something bigger than what I had perceived.

The reward for getting on the stage is fame.

The price of fame is you can’t get off the stage.

When cosplaying as a hobby, there's more freedom to it – you can do anything you want whenever you want. Cosplaying to earn an income requires being more committed and disciplined to produce quality content, watch your speech and appearance and learn how to market yourself to gain support and investment.

If a studio offered to pay me as much to sweep the floor as it did to act, I'd sweep the floor. There isn't anything that pays you as well as acting while you decide what the hell you're going to do with yourself. Who cares about the applause? Do I need applause to feel good about myself?

But mum, I sing now. I earn plenty of money in the streets

Selling pot allowed me to get through college and make enough money to start off in comedy.

Anybody can be a comedian same way anybody can be a doctor, lawyer or a pilot. In many societies around the world, a woman’s role has affected her flexibility in comedy. In countries that historically view women as inferior to men, comedy is seen as a masculine discipline but all that is changing.

I think being successful in comedy is being funny and making jokes - anything beyond that is the icing on the cake.

I think dancers are paid not for what they do, but for the fear they feel. What you do is probably not that difficult: you just get on stage. It is, however, fear that gives you the push.

The great thing about being a comedian is that it kind of doesn't matter how you look. It's actually a disadvantage to be too good-looking. There's a Darwinian advantage to being funny. If you're a good-looking fella, you can't be bothered to make up jokes.

If you don’t earn from acting, you will earn as a producer; you cannot remain in the same place.

I was booked to appear in Kimberley at the Diamonds and Dorings Music Festival. They told me I need to make jokes for like five minutes on stage. I was so petrified because I didn't know what to do. But they paid the money so I had no choice but to go.

Listen to the stage manager and get on stage when they tell you to. No one has time for the rock star act. None of the techs backstage care if you're David Bowie or the milkman. When you act like a jerk, they are completely unimpressed with the infantile display that you might think comes with your dubious status. They were there hours before you building the stage, and they will be there hours after you leave tearing it down. They should get your salary, and you should get theirs.

Nothing compares to getting a laugh. You have to assume it on something like voice work.
