What I can bring to the role is the experience that I have in the side. I've been playing international cricket since I was 16 years old, I know quite a lot of players in the circuit and I've been playing in the leagues as well, so I've played a lot of cricket in recent years and hopefully, I'm able to use that experience and the knowledge to my advantage when I captain the team.

My passion for the squad and it’s success remains the same as when I was a player. I’m looking forward to positively contributing in whatever way I can.

Playing for India has been an honour and I want to continue doing that. I don't know anything else to do other than cricket. I want to play as long as I can,

So, I still see myself continuing to help the young players because I also want to see them reach wherever I reached because I believe I was groomed well as a player. So, taking my experience and giving it to younger players, I think it can also help the team.

I feel capable and it will always be my duty to give my contribution both in terms of national team and projects that may be worth a different and brilliant future for our basketball. In general, I want to be remembered as someone who contributed a lot to the game in Mozambique and continue to inspire future generations with my legacy

It's something that I have always aspired to do, having played in this team for a couple of years. Having more of a leadership role is something I’ve wanted to take on. It'll help me as a cricketer and learning to think as a captain on the field will hopefully help my batting as well.

I promise to discharge my duty diligently and not to let our youth folks down.

Cricket can be a bridge and a glue... Cricket for peace is my mission.

There are fans of Twenty20 cricket, and we need to ensure that we give them the cricket they want to see. We need to keep Test cricket alive, because there is a section of fans who love and worship Test cricket and have basically helped this game grow, and they are as important as anybody else.

Interviewer: Your advice to youngsters who want to take up the sport (referring to cricket)

I am in earnest
I will not equivocate
I will not excuse
I will not retreat a single inch
And I will be heard.

If I'm still strong, I can still go and play. I can say I still have five more years. There are youngsters coming in so I think for them to come while I'm still active, it's a good bonus for the players and share what I learnt with the experience I have with those players before I step off.

I want young players to realise that in doing what you love, you can be an amazing person: a legend, a role model, an icon.

I've always given everything for every team I've played for so that the ordinary fans, the people in the stadium, could identify with me. I owe a lot to the fans of Roma, Fiorentina and Argentina. They were the reason I played, my inspiration. I always worked hard to improve my game, to prove to myself that I could be one of the best for as long as possible. To be honest, I couldn’t care less what the others think.
