I lost my joy because some of my brothers and sisters passed away during the genocide, I think about how we used sing together at home and my heart hurts and I loose the will to play.

I just couldn’t stop. It was compulsive. I started playing it and kept playing. I had a baby at the time, [who] was eight-months old; I totally ignored him. I didn’t want to be bothered. I didn’t want to stop and make dinner.

At some point when I wasn't paying attention, comedic genocide just stopped working for me. This is a shame because so much fantasy and SF depends on genocide as positive plot element. This trifling oddity of taste must have robbed me of hours of morally equivocal entertainment.

Did I still remember how to let my mind play?

I suppose the love of life which periodically deserts most men was returning: like sexual desire, it moves in cycles.

When we were first playing, even though it was derivative, playing music was the best, there was nothing better. And then by the second album (Freak Show) we were like, playing music makes me angry, and by the third album (Neon Ballroom) I was like, I need to play music cos life sucks. And now all of a sudden there's this really youthful enthusiasm in the band, everyone around us, there's this real positivity and everyone's vibing off the music.

Jazz was my passion for a little while. I felt that all other kinds of music were stupid when I was into jazz. But I got over the addiction very soon

Playing that music delivered me from the pressures of my life. I played with my eyes closed and found that my backaches ceased and my headaches would go. The response to that rhythm was "My God, this makes me feel good." I never really remembered having that much fun with it before or thought about jazz making me feel good. But, at 46, it suddenly dawned on me that my body had priorities that my mind didn't allow, and I decided to (play Latin/jazz)^✱ for myself and started having a helluva fine time.

During the genocide, I saw the darkness of a man's heart.

After that the tournament, I realised my potential and decided to the take the game more seriously. By then, cricket in Rwanda was still at a low level and we performed poorly but I was very happy to represent my country,

We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing!

When I was young, I started playing Go because I thought it was fun to beat guys who were older than me. Since then, it became a type of creation of mine. I want my style of Go to be something different, something new, my own thing. Something that no one has thought of before.

Well, I used to be disgusted.
Now I try to be amused.

I have been so anxious to return to what gives me joy most. Giving back to fellow youths has been my hobby and the break cannot stop me from doing this.
