Unless you are at home in the metaphor, you are not safe anywhere.

Being in an uncomfortable place isn’t bad [and] it isn’t wrong; it’s just different. Sometimes you need to be able to take that chance.

You've a good heart. Sometimes that's enough to see you safe wherever you go. But mostly, it's not.

staying home does not necessarily mean staying safe for women.

And being so confused, because I don't feel like I want to go to the men's changing room, and I don't feel like I'm safe in the girl's changing room.

You can be authentic and hardworking and still struggle to find your footing if you're in the wrong environment.

• A fun person trapped in the wrong city.
• A loving partner in a relationship that won't reciprocate.
• A great entrepreneur stuck in the wrong business.

Think about your placement as much as your performance. Plant yourself where you can thrive.

Fear of being alone is not a good reason to stay

[U]ncertain ways unsafest are.

In fact, those responsible for setting up particularly ‘inclusive’ spaces frequently ask certain people to leave in order to ensure ‘safety’.
Safety, you see, also has a new meaning based primarily around not having to be confronted with different opinions and beliefs (as opposed to physical threat, which is the sole ‘safety’ issue everyone cared about until five minutes ago).

How safe are we here?

If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.

There is absolutely no place in SA where women and girls are safe. We are not safe at home, in the car, public transport, at school, in the mall, in the post office or the club

We’re in a situation where a predator feels less safe and a professional woman feels more safe, and that’s where we need to be.

Family life itself, that safest, most traditional, most approved of female choices, is not a sanctuary: It is, perpetually, a dangerous place.
