I call on industry professionals to utilise the research from the University and the academic community to transform society.

Our businesses and bottom lines would be better and the overall growth and development of Nigeria and that of Africa rests on designing and collectively defining an industry where everyone is playing a part to move things forward.

There is a gap between industry and academia. Industry views academia as publication-focused: self-centered, lacking innovation, unaware of IP. Academia views industry as money-focused: driven by the bottom-line, innovating too quickly, product-focused. I would like to see more input from industry and emphasis on understanding 'innovation' to close this gap.

I feel the Indian industry should contribute to help the government towards scientific research. The government alone can't do it. As of now, there's nothing. I have been into research for about 40 years. In the US, 50 to 60 per cent of the research and development (R&D) cost would be covered by the industry. There is a need for the same here and the industry needs to do it. Earlier, the industry in India didn't feel the need to do research. They could sell anything. Now, it wants to compete with the likes of South Korea and Japan, but they can't. We need to change this or the industry can't compete.

This represents a great opportunity for Tanzania: it would pave the way to joint collaborations for researchers from UDSM and private companies, addressing questions of interest for the country. And it would help us build a new class of experts in various disciplines related to this research."

We set rules, regulations and policies regarding the sector but we need more action. We are therefore committed to making more of these kind of cooperation happening

Cooperation for development has now become the major trend of our contemporary world. We have clearly witnessed that diverse forms and scope of cooperation have taken place within and among the regions thus providing a strong boost to the world economic growth.

By building new coalitions with citizens, industry, and government, we can accelerate the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge and effective ideas to serve the public good. On every matter of consequence, from disorders of the mind and body to disorders of the body politic, we have work to do.

We would also want to promote the relationship between our academic institutions as China has premier universities to skill our people to be able to manage the modernization and industrialization programs.

It is imperative for us to come together to pull our resources, share knowledge and innovate for a sustainable future.

We have depended on donor countries for scientific development for so long. It's time we commit more resources in our national budget to advance science and technology.

I will criticise when that is due but we need a pool of knowledge to take the country forward. We can all contribute to national development in various ways.

Henceforth, the scale at which the partnership between government and business is to be elevated, there is much hope that we will see a turn on economic growth yielding to job creation

It is important to launch core reforms in education and healthcare and boost production primarily through developing agriculture and IT sector. We see the latter as a potentially key sector for future development because there is a real need today for several thousand programmers.
