Cosplay is actually a complex hobby. You need to have multiple skills in order to pull off a look that you're really good at, such as wig styling, makeup, prop making, tailoring, concept planning and photo editing. You need all these skills in order to execute well, so don't be sad or frustrated during your first few tries if things didn't go well. Take things slowly and enjoy along the way.

When cosplaying as a hobby, there's more freedom to it – you can do anything you want whenever you want. Cosplaying to earn an income requires being more committed and disciplined to produce quality content, watch your speech and appearance and learn how to market yourself to gain support and investment.

From my own experience, livestreaming has helped my cosplay career a lot. And as a cosplayer, you have to always put yourself out there.

As I moved around, I realized that in other countries beside Vietnam, it's easier to turn cosplay into a career. I just want to say if you want to start doing something, you should put a lot of effort in it and be patient.

They (cosplay props to wear) are really heavy and could get uncomfortable, but it's all worth it because I get to portray my favorite character!

My dream is to work on stage costumes that can be used in operas and such. But since stage costumes are not ready-made costumes (like the ones sold in stores), they are difficult to tailor. I think practicing making (cosplay) costumes would make it easier for me to tailor stage costumes as well.

I started cosplaying back when I was with Blake & Murphy; we decided that we were going to do an Iron Man gear, and that was the first one. It was so much fun to bring a little bit of our personal interests into the ring — especially because sometimes, when you're so set in the storyline, in the character, you kind of lose who you are outside of that. Earn a character first if you can. And if you can't assume one.

If you can just convey it to someone in a genuine way, with a scenario or explain why it is what it is, that’s the most helpful thing. But you also have to give some kind of creative freedom to the people who are doing the voices and doing those roles – because if they got the job and they know the characters well they’re gonna do well. So a lot of that is just having a good cast and then facilitating it, let them be creative and then if something has to be tweaked, just be very helpful with how it needs to be tweaked.

You know when you’re starting out as an actor it’s like “just give me a job, as long as I can keep my clothes on I’m happy!”.

Many people ask me what it takes to become a successful comic artist. I don't want to go into a lengthy discussion here, so I will simply list three answers: talent, learning, and persistence.

For acting, the best way to be in character is to embody and become the character in the best way possible.

They (up and coming actors) should just be themselves. Believe in what they are doing and can do. One day they will get good roles and if they play them properly, they will be made.
