I’m very skeptical about General AI anytime in my lifetime.

I distrust every idea that doesn't seem obsolete and grotesque to my contemporaries.

I worry that we humans will discriminate against AI systems that clearly exhibit consciousness. That we will not allow AI systems to have consciousness. We'll come up with theories about measuring consciousness that will say that this is a lesser being. And I worry about that because maybe we humans will create something that is better than us humans in the way that we find beautiful, which is they have a deeper subjective experience of reality. Not only are they smarter, but they feel deeper. And we humans will hate them for it. As human history have shown, they'll be 'the other'. We'll try to suppress it. It will create conflict. It will create war. All of this. I worry about this too.

Modern PCs are horrible. ACPI is a complete design disaster in every way. But we're kind of stuck with it. If any Intel people are listening to this and you had anything to do with ACPI, shoot yourself now, before you reproduce.

People are afraid of AI partly because we see ourselves as imperfect and dangerous. Hence, our creation of AI can also be imperfect and dangerous.

I'm obsessively opposed to the typical.

I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

The last thing we want is a nasty divorce between humans and superintelligent machines, for that would certainly spell the end of the human race.

I've always resisted the idea of becoming a David Hasselhoff, and I hope I'm still resisting it.

[About AI:] I am scared of these things too. Everyone should be scared of these things. These things are scary. But now you ask about the two possible futures. One where a small "trusted" centralized group of people has them, and the other where everyone has them. And I am much less scared of the second future than the first.

I feel a conscious attempt to be more and more related to society. That's what's important to me as a person. I'm not going to let other people make all the changes; and if you do that, you can't curt yourself of.. .I'm only against the most obvious things, like wars and stuff like that. I don't have any particular concept about an utopian way things should be. I have a prejudice or a bias, it is that there shouldn't be any particular way. Being a complex human organ, we are capable of a variety; we can do so much. The big fear is that we don't do enough with our senses, with our activities, with our areas of consideration; and these have got to get bigger year after year.
