My title is mostly symbolic, I'm not like these rich kings of Europe, but I represent the Afro-Bolivian community, and this is a huge responsibility to me.

It is an honour especially since in this category, I actually represent Africa. To this date, I remain the only member from the African continent to bear this title.

Like my afro, I rise. Proudly self, proudly African — that is all I can be.

Translation: Therefore I also like to take this opportunity to pledge that I will carry out to the fullest the heavy responsibility that has been placed on my shoulders as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong [King].

I am not a friend of demagogic positions and easy answers. My historical and ethical conviction is unalterable, but as a responsible citizen and much more as the president of Bolivians, my obligation is to reconcile the issues of principle with the demands of reality.

Given this responsibility, it is a vote of trust which I am deeply honoured to accept. I can be made the leader and someone will have something to say about it. I know what my role is

With my team, I will carry out this heavy responsibility based on the people's aspirations.

How important are the responsibilities, which now devolve upon me I fully realise, and it is my intention to prove by performance rather than by words. The inhertitance to which I succeed is no ordinary one, and I appreciate what Mysore owes to the administration of wise statesmen, and the care of British Government under the regency of my revered mother….may heaven grant me the ability as well the ambition to make a full and wise use of the great opportunities of my position, and to govern, without fear or favour for the lasting happiness of my people.

I have accepted the challenge of being a Negro in America and of being an American first.

Of course, as a human being I am facing a great dilemma. I don't want to praise myself that everyone acknowledges that among the members of the royal family, maybe I am the only one. But at the same time Funcinpec needs me, and I am still fighting for the victory of my party, but it is up to the people. I will approach my office as chancellor with great seriousness and respect because there is an incredible amount to do.

He must also recognise that his role as leader of one of the largest youth movements in South Africa comes with very large responsibilities and that his behaviour at all times should reflect that of a leader and not of a thug.

People think that I have more power than I do. As the archbishop, I have to live not by "fiat" or by decree, but I have to live by gathering the people of God. Some people say that all I have to do is say it to be done, but it doesn't work that way. It is a position for great responsibility within the Church, but it is a ministry of the Church. I think that any power that I exercise has to be exercised with humility and in the light of the Gospel.
