When I’m writing, I can see myself in all of the characters I write.

I want freedom for the full expression of my personality.

In this desperate way, I started many a comedy.

I opened my eyes and saw the real world, and I began to laugh, and i haven't stopped since.

You see, most people with multiple personalities get therapy. I get my own HBO comedy series!

To all my friends without distinction I am ready to display my opulence: come one, come all; and whosoever likes to take a share is welcome to the wealth that lies within my soul.

If some busybody were to cross-examine me on the chapters already written, he could probably shed much more light on them, and if it were a hostile critic’s cross-examination, he might even flatter himself for having shown up [make the world laugh by revealing] the hollowness of many of my pretensions.

At last, my friends, I am come amongst you. And I am come…unmuzzled.

I think people like a little more "personal revelation" in their comedy. And that's fine! They have-- There's three generations behind me doin' it. But my thing is: I want a number of jokes of a certain quality, and laughs. I want the room to just be ringin' with laughs.

It finally dawned on me that if I was going to do my own show, all those things I lectured about and obsessed about would make for an interesting world.

What I really wanted was every kind of life, and the writer’s life seemed the most inclusive.

Ability to do different genres over the years gives me the joy to present something.

On one side you have book burners, Congressional wives and Pat Robertson. On the other side, you have vulgar comedians, foul-mouthed rap groups and — all your choices should be so easy.

I want them to see beyond my real-life comic skits and embrace, and learn from my character’s relationship and journey with other ghosts and Saro.
