It takes a strong person to cry. It takes a stronger person to let others see those tears.

It takes strength to face our sadness and to grieve and to let our grief and our anger flow in tears when they need to. It takes strength to talk about our feelings and to reach out for help and comfort when we need it.

"One of my favourite verse in the Christian Bible is the shortest one of all: "Jesus wept." He showed His humanity. He shed messy, unmanly tears. He didn't do it in private. He did it in front of His friends and followers. In front of a crowd.

We need to stop hiding our tears and actually share them. It takes a strong person to cry. It takes a stronger person to let others see those tears. We need to be tough enough to be tender, no matter who is watching."

Confronting our feelings and giving them appropriate expression always takes strength, not weakness. It takes strength to acknowledge our anger, and sometimes more strength yet to curb the aggressive urges anger may bring and to channel them into nonviolent outlets. It takes strength to face our sadness and to grieve and to let our grief and our anger flow in tears when they need to. It takes strength to talk about our feelings and to reach out for help and comfort when we need it.

In fact, crying at appropriate times is one of the biggest signs of mental strength, as people who are struggling often find it difficult to release their feelings and be vulnerable.

Crying isn’t simply about opening the floodgates to some private trauma and letting it out — crying is just as much about letting those around you know you’re hurting.

Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

Cry alone and you'll keep crying those same tears over and over. Cry with someone and those tears have the power to heal you once and for all.

When someone is crying, of course, the noble thing to do is to comfort them. But if someone is trying to hide their tears, it may also be noble to pretend you do not notice them.

More tearful than crying is seeing someone cry.

There's something special about letting your kids see you cry. It doesn't mean you're weak. It means you are human.

There is a kind of crying I hope you have not experienced, and it is not just crying about something terrible that has happened, but a crying for all of the terrible things that have happened, not just to you but to everyone you know and to everyone you don’t know and even the people you don’t want to know, a crying that cannot be diluted by a brave deed or a kind word, but only by someone holding you as your shoulders shake and your tears run down your face.

Crying does not indicate that you are weak. Since birth, it has always been a sign that you are alive.

Never be ashamed of your tears. Cry and everyone knows you’re alive.
