It's very simple: We fear most what we understand the least.

There is none so quick to dismiss what they don’t understand as those who are afraid of it. And maybe with reason.

There is a mental fear, which provokes others of us to see the images of witches in a neighbor’s yard and stampedes us to burn down this house. And there is a creeping fear of doubt, doubt of what we have been taught, of the validity of so many things we had long since taken for granted to be durable and unchanging. It has become more difficult than ever to distinguish black from white, good from evil, right from wrong.

She feared the unknown as we all do, and her ignorance made the unknown infinitely vast.

The condition of mankind is to be weary of what we do know, and afraid of what we do not.

To learn what we fear is to learn who we are. Horror defies our boundaries and illuminates our souls.
