Claudio Gugerotti (7 October 1955–) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He is an Italian Cardinal of the Catholic Church who was named prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches in November 2022. He previously worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See, holding the position of nuncio in several eastern European countries between 2001 and 2020 and in Great Britain from 2020 to 2022. He joined the staff of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches in 1985 and was its undersecretary from 1997 to 2001. He has been an archbishop since 2001. Pope Francis created him cardinal on 30 September 2023.

Chi è che può dare a questa gente capillarmente una speranza per sopravvivere se non la liturgia, i sacramenti, la preghiera, il sacerdote che consola, che aiuta: insomma l’amore di Dio? Come si fa a pensare che sia più utile combattere che non gestire il morale della gente? Ma per farlo bisogna credere in Dio. E quando la fede è una specie di vernice, allora succede che poi si fanno delle scelte che, convinti di farle per il bene del popolo, mettono in discussione la forza di sopravvivenza del popolo stesso. La strumentalizzazione diventa sempre una tentazione forte del potere di avere la Chiesa dalla propria parte e della Chiesa di trarre vantaggio. E quando si chiede di avere la Chiesa dalla propria parte vuol dire che si sente di essere fragili.
