There is a certain terror that goes along with saying “My life is up to me.” It is scary to realize there’s no magic, you can’t just wait around, no one can really rescue you, and you have to do something. Not knowing what you want to do with your life — or not at least having some ideas about what to do next — is a defense against that terror. It is a resistance to admitting that the possibilities are not endless. It is a way of pretending that now doesn’t matter. Being confused about choices is nothing more than hoping that maybe there is a way to get through life without taking charge. Rather than take charge,

Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.

We think that by avoiding decisions now, we keep all of our options open for later. But not making choices is a choice all the same.

I think I'm just as confused as everyone else on how to make our lives a piece of art, but I think that part of the joy is simply trying.

Life is about not knowing and then doing something anyway.

If you're confused about life, you're not alone. There are almost seven billion of us. This isn't a problem, of course, once you realize that life is neither a problem to be solved nor a game to be won.
If you are too intent on making the pieces of a nonexistent puzzle fit, you miss out on all the real fun. The heaviness of success-chasing can be replaced with a serendipitous lightness when you recognize that the only rules and limits are those we set for ourselves.

There is no real direction here, neither lines of power nor cooperation. Decisions are never really made – at best they manage to emerge, from a chaos of peeves, whims, hallucinations and all around assholery.

There are no have-to's, just choices

I can enjoy guiding efforts without being in charge now. There are a lot of marvelous people here willing to do things. Give them a chance and let them.

There is a lack of agency here — a feeling that you have little control over your life and a willingness to blame everyone but yourself.

Sometimes the things presented to us as choices aren't choices at all.

Maybe that’s the key to happiness — being sort of dumb, not wanting to know any of the answers.
