What I think needs to be done in 2018 is more dialogue around the ethics, the principles that we can use for the engineers and companies that are building AI [artificial intelligence], so that the choices we make do not cause us to create systems with bias.

# They have learned the importance of intellectual integrity, social responsibility, and ethical commitment.

I think we’re at a moment with the development of AI where we have ways to provide support, encouragement, affirmation, coaching and advice. We’ve basically taken emotional intelligence and distilled it. And I think that is going to unlock the creativity of millions and millions of people for whom that wasn’t available.

As yesterday's positive report card shows, childrens do learn when standards are high and results are measured.

AI researchers, scientists and students must consider issues ranging from security, privacy and accountability to diversity, equity and inclusion. They need to ask questions about climate and culture alongside questions about ones and zeros.

There is one view that we can allow these AI [tools] to deal with data and analytics and we let people deal with the caring, and the empathy, and the emotional aspects of care, which I think is absolutely critical... What if technology is capable of high touch engagement? What if AI was also social and emotionally intelligent? For me when I talk about emotional engagement, it’s not just about great user experience with technology... It is about deeper human engagement to enable transformative change in people’s lives... We have the world of design and we have the world of AI and right now those two aren’t built top of each other... But these have to come together. So we, through a lot of psychology, understand how people are thinking about experiencing new technology.

Since empathy and emotional intelligence can be taught, and these skills are key to preparing our sons for the professions that will be in the greatest demand, we need to integrate this curriculum into our schools in the formative years.

There are three things that I think are important:
Truth, curiosity, and beauty.

If AI cares about those three things, it will care about us.

Truth will prevent AI from going insane.
Curiosity will foster humanity.
And if it has a sense of beauty, it will be a great future.

The ethical integration of artificial intelligence with human values and emotions will form the foundation of future artificial intelligence.

We have a different style of leadership, more inclusive, more empathetic, more caring for little children and this makes the difference.

I’m pleased, though somewhat surprised, by how many people are thinking and talking about these issues.

We might be learning slowly, but change is coming fast.
