About Carlos Castañeda

Carlos Castañeda (December 25, 1925 – April 27, 1998) was an American writer. Starting in 1968, Castaneda published a series of books that describe a training in shamanism that he received under the tutelage of a Yaqui "Man of Knowledge" named don Juan Matus. While Castaneda's work was accepted as factual by many when the books were first published, the training he described is now generally considered to be fictional.

Additional quotes by Carlos Castañeda

He said that I was a man. And like any man I deserved everything that was a man’s lot — joy, pain, sadness and struggle — and that the nature of one’s acts was unimportant as long as one acted as a warrior. Not to fix the spirit was to seek death, and that was the same as to seek nothing, since death was going to overtake us regardless of anything. He paused for a long time and then he said with a tone of profound conviction, “To seek the perfection of the warrior’s spirit is the only task worthy of our manhood.

« — Как ты думаешь, мне удастся еще раз побывать в том самом конкретном городе? — Меня привел туда ты. Так что я не знаю. Вернее, знаю, но объяснить не могу. Вернее, могу, но не хочу. Тебе просто следует выждать и самостоятельно выяснить, в чем тут дело.»

The humbleness of a warrior is not the humbleness of a beggar. The warrior lowers his head to no one, but at the same time, he doesn't permit anyone to lower his head to him. The beggar, on the other hand, falls to his knees at the drop of a hat and scrapes the floor for anyone he deems to be higher; but at the same time, he demands that someone lower than him scrape the floor for him.
