People don't want to be told that what they're doing might not be the right thing or might not make everybody happy. But I am somebody who – I don't just go along to get along.

She is not one to disdain truth indefinitely only because it is unpleasant.

I don't want anyone to feel like they don't fit in, or it's not good to be different or [that], like, there is a normal—because there's not.

These days, the phone only carries bad news. It’s all “your student loan is past due” and “your uncle Chris is in the hospital.” If it’s anything fun or exciting, like an invitation to a party or a secret project in the works, it will come through the internet.

"Good news is only really good to those directly involved. Most people lead such futile and useless lives that only bad news makes them feel better. If not better, certainly gooder. If one cannot gain recognition for anything else, he can rest well with the assurance that he is "good", which in most case equates with "right"."

She keeps trying and you've got to be careful or you'll find yourself believing her, not because she seems to be telling the truth, but simply because you're tired of disbelieving her.

She wanted to believe. But she also knew better.

I often talk to people who say, ‘No, we have to be hopeful and to inspire each other, and we can’t tell [people] too many negative things’ . . . But, no — we have to tell it like it is. Because if there are no positive things to tell, then what should we do, should we spread false hope? We can’t do that, we have to tell the truth.

As a rule, I always try not to have expectations.

“ask questions that they might not be asking of themselves” because as she says,

No one loves the messenger who brings bad news.

There is no limit to possibilities when you are certain that the message you carry has something valid to offer. It is bound to make an impact even if it takes time. What the carrier of the Good News has to do is to work according to the rhythms of human nature and the processes of history and wait for the action of the Lord.

It exasperated her, but she knew better than to force the world to bend to her desire.

One shouldn't write one's own epitaph. I hope people will remember me as one who did her best - and who wasn't an anachronism.
