أنَا إسْمٌ بلآ لَقَبِ
صَبورٌ فِي بلادٍ كُلُّ مَا فِيهَا
يَعِيشُ بِ فَورّةِ الغَضَبِ
جُذُورّي .. قَبْلَ مِيلادِ الزَمَانِ رَسَتْ
و قَبْلَ تَفَتّحِ الحُقَبِ
وَ قَبْلَ السّروِ وَ الزَيتُّونِ
وَ قَبْلَ تَرَعْرعِ العُشْبِ
أبِّي .. مِنْ أُسْرّةِ المِحْرَاثِ
لآ مِنْ سَادّةٍ نجبِ
وَ جدّي كَانَ فَلاحاً
بلآ حَسَبٍ.. وَ لآ نَسَبِ !
يُعَلّمنِي شُمُوخَ الشَمْسِ قَبْلَ قِرَاءةِ الكُتُبِ
وَ بَيتِي كُوخُ نَاطُورٍ
مِنَ الأعْوَادِ وَ القَصَبِ
فَهَلْ تُرضِيكَ مَنْزِلَتِي ؟

About Mahmoud Darwish

Mahmoud Darwish (13 March 1941 – 9 August 2008) was a Palestinian poet and author who was regarded as the Palestinian national poet. He won numerous awards for his works. Darwish used Palestine as a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile. He also served as an editor for several literary magazines in Palestine.
