Our most important thinking machines will not be machines that can think what we think faster, better, but those that think what we can’t think.

I'm afraid that the following syllogism may be used by some in the future.

Turing believes machines think
Turing lies with men
Therefore machines do not think

Computers can never completely replace humans. They may become capable of artificial intelligence, but they will never master real stupidity.

The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do.

May not machines carry out something which ought to be described as thinking but which is very different from what a man does?

The original question, 'Can machines think?' I believe to be too meaningless to deserve discussion.

The machine does much of what we used to do. The machine thinks for us. The machine has become, instead of a tool, the replacement of our minds. Use it (our minds) or lose it has become a reality today. And, since we are less inclined to use it, we are most definitely losing it. Our power to think is being rapidly deteriorated.

Thinking is not doing.

You cannot endow even the best machine with initiative; the jolliest steam-roller will not plant flowers.

The real question is not whether machines think but whether men do. The mystery which surrounds a thinking machine already surrounds a thinking man.

If a machine is expected to be infallible, it cannot also be intelligent.
