Teaching is one of the most creative and exhausting jobs I have ever had. Clever political adversaries, irate constituents, and elbow-throwing litigators were never as tough to handle as those students were on a daily basis.

It is important to emphasise that disruption increases teacher's workloads and wastes lesson time that teachers have carefully prepared for.

Teaching remains a heroic act to me, and teachers live a necessary and all-important life. We are killing their spirit with unnecessary pressure and expectation that seem forced and destructive to me. Long ago I was one of them. I still regret I was forced to leave them. My entire body of work is because of men and women like them.

Teachers should prioritize the well-being of their students, as it is the pupils who suffer most when teachers neglect their teaching duties.

Teachers are very undervalued for what they do.

Women receive easily the most difficult assignments.

Teachers are expected to reach unattainable goals with inadequate tools. The miracle is that at times they accomplish this impossible task.

Education...is a painful, continual and difficult work to be done in kindness, by watching, by warning,... by praise, but above all — by example.

We're a nation of exhausted and over-stressed adults raising over-scheduled children.

Teachers teach because they care. Teaching young people is what they do best. It requires long hours, patience, and care.

If pupils suffer from attention disorders, stress and low grades, perhaps we ought to blame outdated teaching methods, overcrowded classrooms and an unnaturally fast tempo of life.

There’s another issue in the school system, which is standardized tests. Teachers focus so much time and energy in teaching students how to pass tests that they’re not able to educate them. So our students are overtested and undereducated.

What office is there which involves more responsibility, which requires more qualifications, and which ought, therefore, to be more honourable, than that of teaching?

It is the malady of our age that the young are so busy teaching us that they have no time left to learn.
