At fifty-four, I am still in progress, and I hope that I always will be.

I am thrilled to be alive at time when humanity is pushing against the limits of understanding. Even better, we may eventually discover that there are no limits.

I still feel that sincerity and realism are avant-garde, or can be, just as I did when I started out.

I continue to explore the science in which I work almost like a child, with naïve joy, curiosity, and amazement.

I was still very hopeful that much work lay ahead of me. Perhaps because much of what I had worked on or thought about had not yet been put into writing, I felt I still had things in reserve. Given this optimistic nature, I feel this way even now when I am past sixty.

We are lucky to live in an age in which we are still making discoveries.

But you know, I've always been excited about getting older. I love getting wiser and having more experience. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have vulnerabilities and discomforts around my age, but trying to pretend or hide the things that I feel insecure or uncomfortable about doesn't make them any less comfortable, you know?

The reason i maintain some optimism is that i think philosophically we're in pretty good shape... People...want to know the truth...

I am caught in a kind of wonder, I am still with joy.

I always try to improve, to find new ways of expressing myself, to keep looking for truth and originality.
